Sterling, VA May 27, 2004 -โ€" Software development company Vermalt LLC today announced the availability of JFlashPlayer 1.2, a Java application program interface (API) that allows Java developers to play and control Macromediaโ„ข Flash animations within Java programs.

JFlashPlayer allows programmers to quickly add Flash animations to their Java application development for Microsoft Windows, helping to improve the end user experience with advanced animations, and add to the professional appearance of an application. With the complex capabilities of Macromedia Flash, developers can design anything from data entry forms to interactive multimedia programs.

By utilizing JFlashPlayer, developers programmatically control the Flash player interface, including the following functionality:

โ€ขListen to Flash events (FSCommand Flash action)

โ€ขSet and retrieve Flash variables

โ€ขCall frame actions

โ€ขControl animation (play, stop, back, forward, rewind)

โ€ขSet loop (on or off)

โ€ขSet animation quality

โ€ขSet background color

Additionally, JFlashPlayer allows programmers to automatically install the required version of the Flash player, making a Java program with JFlashPlayer more widely usable. Developers also have the option to display alternate images, including Java-loadable image such as jpg and gif files, if the necessary Flash player is not present.

โ€œVermalt designed JFlashPlayer to function as an easy-to-use Java API that brings together two of the most popular development environments currently available,โ€ said Rick Airhart, director of business development for Vermalt. โ€œWe listened to our customers who wanted to provide more than animated GIF's as a crude multimedia experience. JFlashPlayer delivers Flash animations that can interact with the end-user and the underlying Java code.โ€

JFlashPlayer works in Windows 95, 98, Me, NT4, 2000 and XP. It has been tested with JRE (Java Runtime Environment) 1.3.1 and 1.4. Full documentation and sample code are available in the trial edition. More information can be found at http://www.javaapis.com/jflashplayer.
